Emrys Morgan Cup - Felinfach 4 v 3 Carno Res
Felinfach had to come from behind twice in this exciting Emrys Morgan Round 2 encounter against an in form Carno side before eventually securing a place in the last 32. Despite heavy rain over the last week the pitch was declared fit to play on early in the day to allow time for Carno to travel the 60 or so miles for this tie. The travelling clearly didnt affect them and they got off to a flier and went ahead after only 3 minutes after hesitation in the Felinfach defence allowed their striker to coolly slot the ball past Felinfach keeper Sean Thomas. Felinfach then settled into their passing rhythm and got back to 1-1 when Rhodri Bevan fired high into the roof of the Carno goal.
Carno then hit back when a fine inswinging corner failed to be dealt with by the Felinfach defence to allow a far post finish to put the visitors 2-1 ahead. Failing to be deflated by this setback Felinfach continued to play the more flowing football on an increasingly heavy pitch and got it back to 2-2 at half time when a fine move down the left was finished off superbly by Gareth Evans.
The second half continued as the first with Felinfach looking the sharper and they went ahead for the first time when wing back Dan White was first to react to a loose ball in the Carno box to bundle the ball over the line. They should maybe have gone on to make the tie safe with 25 minutes to go but instead found themselves pegged back to 3-3 when Carno finished well from a well worked move down the left hand side.
With maybe the smart money being on extra time being required, Felinfach continued to push forward and were unlucky not to go 4-3 up when the referee blew for an apparent push on a Carno defender as the ball crossed the line from a corner. However they were soon to be rewarded when another inswinging corner was superbly met at the far post by Reserve Team captain Denzil Davies to head the ball past the despairing Carno keeper to claim his first ever first team goal with 15 minutes to go.
Felinfach learnt from their earlier mistakes and did not let Carno back into the tie again to complete an excellent 4-3 victory and will look forward to the draw for the 3rd round with relish
On a day where again the whole team showed a huge amount of determination against a good Carno side.perhaps special mention should be given this time to captain Eilir Evans and his vice captain Richard Haywood whose tireless running and organisation of those around them was the catalyst for this fine victory. |
